NY Faith & Justice, in partnership with The UN Millennium Campaign, Invites you to... STAND UP AGAINST POVERTY ... TOGETHER

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church @ 521 W. 126th Street (between Broadway and Amsterdam).

    map it
Last year 23.5 million people around the world stood up against poverty and set a Guinness World Record of people taking action against poverty. This year, the UN Millennium Campaign and its partner, the Global Call to Action Against Poverty, will attempt to break this record.
NY Faith and Justice is partnering with the UN Millennium Campaign to organize this Stand Up Against Poverty action in New York City because we affirm Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s reminder: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” We believe the crush of poverty anywhere is a threat to God’s peace everywhere.
    Program begins at 7pm sharp!

    Invited Speakers:

+ Kiyo Akasaka (UN Department for Public Information) + Jeremy Del Rio (Generation Xcel)

    Confirmed Speakers & Artists:

+ Jonathan Mendez (NY Faith & Justice) + Derrick Boykin (Bread for the World) + Rev. Chloe Breyer (Episcopalians for Global Reconciliation) + John T. Anderson (Subway Poet) + Michael Smitheram (The Micah Challenge) + Bishop Paul Mususu (Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia) + Lisa Sharon Harper (NY Faith & Justice)

    Program

+ 7:45 pm: We will pray for God to lift the burden of poverty from our selves, our neighbors, our city and our world. + 7:55 pm: We will rise up together in one symbolic action. By this action, we covenant with each other to stand together against poverty and for the millennium development goals in New York and around the world.

Not sure if you know but the results are in! Over 38.8 million people, in 110 countries have broken the Guinness World Record – set last year at 23.5 million – for the largest number of people to “STAND UP AGAINST POVERTY” in 24 hours.
