    Wednesday Weekly Webcast

    By Jeremy | December 5, 2007

With BattleCry coming to Greater New York in three months, this Weekly Webcast presents the recent BattleCry profile by Christian Amanpour on her critically acclaimed "God's Warriors" series.

    BattleCry on CNN, Part 1

    BattleCry on CNN, Part 2

    Video Highlights

+ Regarding BC's City Hall demonstration last year in San Francisco, Amanpour notes: "[Ron Luce] professes not to understand the anger. ... But how shocked could he be? BattleCry is being staged in arguably the most liberal city in America. This is the intersection between faith and the secular world." (Part 2) + Ron's response: "The message of Jesus was divisive as well. So much of our culture has become gray. You know, there's really not a right, there's really not a wrong. That's not the message of the Bible. Wrong things will hurt you and destroy you, and these kids are choosing the right thing, and choosing to live for purity." + Ron Luce: "Whoever speaks up most gets to shape the culture. I'm looking at a whole army of young people who want to speak out. ... We're hear to stage a reverse rebellion. We're hear to rise up, reject the pop culture, and recreate it. ... [To audience] Do you have a voice?" (Part 1) + Ron Luce: "Virtue terrorists are destroying our kids. ... They're raping virgin teenage America on the sidewalk and everybody's walking by and acting like everything's ok, and it's just not ok."

Jeremy did you see Christiane Amanpour’s 3 part God’s Warriors series on CNN? It was a hit piece on Christians and Jews. I saw portions of it, but couldn’t stomach the whole thing, unles I wanted to throw a show through my TV.
She said that Judaism and Christianity had their own fundamentalists to worry about and painted terrorist groups as freedom fighters basically.
I’m sure she would spin his statements of an army of young people as scary Christian Fundamentalists.

Jeremy, (and P) this popped up in my inbox from google alerts. It’s great that you’ve posted it. What did you guys think about the videos? Did you think they painted an accurate portrayal of this movement/event?

Todd When it comes to anything on CNN and especially Christiane Amanpour, if the subject matter is Christians, Republicans, America it is by and large negative.
When it comes to Democrats, Liberals, The Clintons, Communists, Raducal Muslims (i.e. Terrorists) and people that hate America it is positive.
I mean you have heard the nicknames for CNN correct? Clinton News Network and Comunnist News Network

Todd, please excuse my friend P. He’s a bit jaded. ;)

As for your question, I think the report accurately captures the tension around BattleCry’s ministry methodology. Some of that tension was also captured in response to a forum with Ron Luce hosted by the Coalition of Urban Youth Workers here in NYC. Check out the notes here: http://coalitionnyc.com/2007/04/10/ron-luce-live-at-the-coalition/

To summarize the tension (as I understand it) those who agree with BC’s politics are more receptive to BC’s spiritual (and political) messages. Those who don’t agree with the politics get put off by them, and reject the spiritual messages along with the political ones. The question for the believers is whether we can translate spiritual fervor beyond political rhetoric into acts of kindness and love that will penetrate the hearts of youth.
