Live Blogging Reload NYC, Part 1

    Harvey Carey

“The anointed youth worker” Isaiah 61:1-7 “Do you know why you are anointed?” Most Christians pray for anointing. When you pray for anointing, you are praying for opportunities for anointing to be shown. People with pizza parties and amusement parks and call that youth ministry. BUT that’s not youth ministry! Youth workers need not be ashamed of the gospel. Are you willing to go through hell top reach your kids? Stop being upset that God has anointed you to handle the garbage you’re going through. No whining or complaining saints. You’re in a battle. The last thing we need are youth workers complaining about the hell that surrounds you. So what’s an anointed youth worker? They’re rare. Most are just youth group leaders – glorified baby sitters watching “Chucky’s Seed.” Why don’t we change with all the conferences we attend and teaching we receive? Because we are hearers of the word and not doers. You are anointed and you can’t do anything about it. God’s not through with you! God has you where you are for a specific purpose. Why are you anointed? Most youth workers are drafted… no burning bush experience. Time to stop relying on methodologies and start relying on anointing. Permission slip should say: “In case of death, you will not hold [church] liable for non-negligent death related activity.” The anointing isn’t going to come with a concert. We are anointed to bring people out of darkness. bind the brokenhearted, and take light into places of darkness. What has your youth ministry done in the last 6 months to intentionally do these things? Anointing only comes when opportunities are created. Anointing blesses the people who are crying in church (“grieving in Zion”). If we build a ministry around the Word of God and not just watered down methodologies and systems, anointing will happen. Some of our youth workers are mourning in Zion. You can’t be in youth ministry and not be under hellish attack. Satan’s mad as hell – at you! – because you are standing between him and them. Things are going to get worse when you’re in battle for kids’ souls. The anointed come to bring a divine exchange. Take ashes and make them beautiful. God doesn’t make beauty out of beauty. He allows ashes to be present so that beauty can come out of it. When you have a God-sized problem, you can experience him – and not you! God hasn’t made a mistake in allowing youth culture to get where it’s gotten. He’s set us up for his finest hour! Are we responding to the table he’s set for us? We must proactively do. Go into the mess; be creative, ingenius, outside the box. Youth ministry is youth doing ministry, not being entertained and service. We’re not called to entertain kids, but to raise them up to do ministry. Church kids are the most spoiled of all. HC’s men’s ministry went camping in front of the crack houses in Detroit with tents and kerosene stovetops. Followed the crack dealers as they moved throughout the city. The anointed produces oaks of splendor, not for our own splendor but for God’s. There are many types of Christians here, with lots of style preferences – just like heaven! Don’t whine when they don’t give you credit. Are we doing ministry for the pastor’s approval, or God’s approval? Know that the teens aren’t going to thank you. Their parents are going to take advantage, and the church elders aren’t going to appreciate you like they’re going to receive the guest minister. A prophet is without honor in his own crib. “They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restores the places long devastated.” What’s the purpose of being an anointed youth worker? To change the city! Elevate your thinking. Get your mind off of your piddling non-kingdom stuff and onto your anointed purpose! “Living the Legacy” UYWI ’08 theme – why is that important? There are generations that have dropped the ball. And it’s our time to reclaim what matters. God is getting ready to take what is foolish and confound the wise. Walk like you’re going somewhere!
