NYC Marathon: Dan ran to keep the Relief Bus running

    By Jeremy | November 4, 2007

The New York City Marathon runs past my building every first Sunday in November. Most special for Judah and me is the opportunity to root for my friend Dan Stoltzfus as he runs to raise money for New York City Relief. Here's the scoop, in his words.

Right after 9/11/01, I dusted off my running shoes and ran a series of 15 races over eight weekends to raise money to help get a 2nd Relief Bus on the streets. It was a critical moment to re-double our outreach efforts…together we raised over $5,000 and got another Relief Bus on the streets quickly. Seven years later, that Relief Bus is still on the street to bring hope and help to the homeless, addicted, and abandoned. Since 2001, I've kept on running (just like Forrest Gump!). On Sunday, November 4th, I am running my third New York City Marathon, and this time it will be another 26.2 mile Run for Relief. Training for and running the NYC Marathon takes perseverance, dedication, and willingness to run through pain to get to the finish. Throughout the year, the Relief Buses leave our base in Elizabeth, NJ on a journey to the streets of New York City, it is approximately a 26 mile round trip journey just like the marathon. Our courageous Relief Bus Team is committed to the journey to bring hope...rain or shine and often in difficult circumstances. Will you stand with me to keep the Relief Buses running? If 100 people would sponsor me for $2 per mile for 26 miles for a total of $52—together we could raise $5,200 to keep the Relief Buses running! If you can’t give $2 per mile or can give more, please consider a generous donation to support the Relief Bus outreach. If you want to support this effort, you can click on the following link below and make your donation today—you can designate your tax-deductible gift for the Run for Relief through this secure site. If giving by check, make it out to New York City Relief designated for the Run for Relief and mail it to: New York City Relief P.O. Box 64, Times Square P.O. New York, NY 10108 If you can help, please e-mail me at daniel@nycr.org to let me know you are partnering with me in the Run for Relief. Thanks for standing with us!
