    Hurricane Hell?

    By Jeremy | September 13, 2006

As NY reflected on the 5-year anniversary of 9/11, "The new crop of hurricanes churning up the Atlantic Ocean raises the specter of a disaster more devastating for New York than a terrorist's wildest dreams."
When Tropical Storm Ernesto blew through the city two weeks ago, it downed trees and wreaked havoc all over. This tree fell half a block from our building, taking out three parked cars that just as easily could have been ours. Thankfully, it came down at 7am on a Saturday morning and didn't injure any people. Last August, four years after 9-11, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita demonstrated how ill-equipped we still are to respond effectively to significant disasters. Are we any better equipped today?
