    Super

    By Jeremy | July 1, 2006

    Man.

I took Judah today after someone read the Plugged-in review to me over the phone. Somehow we missed the fact that it has a PG-13 rating until after I bought the tickets. Thought twice about going in, but warned Judah that there might be some scenes where I'd cover his eyes, and told him if he got afraid at any point we could step out of the theater. Only had to do that once, during a preview for an upcoming horror flick/thriller. Can't figure out why they show those previews alongside previews for animated films.

As for the movie, we enjoyed it immensely. Judah can't wait to see the "old" version, and I wouldn't mind watching it again myself. Besides the obvious Messianic metaphors, the effects are extraordinary; the story works; Kevin Spacey's Lex Luther is another of his classic criminals (Usual Suspects, Seven); and newcomer Brandon Routh practically channels Christopher Reeve at times. That said, there is one aspect of the revised storyline that is unsettling (unstated so as not to spoil a major plot device). Fortunately, Judah's too young to have understood it clearly, but in a few more years, maybe even just a few more viewings, he'll understand quite well.
